Nevada Volunteers Do Their Part to Reach 200k VotersOFA volunteers knocked on more than 200,000 doors in 48 hours -- building our grassroots movement and organizing first time 2008 voters to go to the polls this November. Nevada volunteers contributed mightily to this effort and as usual canvassed in hot weather but were not deterred. People were enthusiastic and shared their stories of why they become involved.
Dennis R., 70, had not canvassed since the 2008 elections, but said he was motivated to come out this weekend and knock on doors to inform people about the upcoming election in November as part of our national weekend of action. April R., canvassed for the first-time and was a top performer by knocking on 50 doors and collecting 12 pledge cards! Thank you Nevada volunteers for your outstanding commitment to this important mid-term election. Your hard work over the weekend coupled with the President’s announcement of our draw down of troops in Iraq, a promise that he made during his campaign and has now kept, is a testament to a forward looking vision of where our country needs to be. Join us this weekend for a youth phone bank to help us get out the vote. http://bit.ly/OFALVYPB We will keep organizing and keep moving America forward!

Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Nancy K.This volunteer spotlight was written by our communications intern Stephanie Streuber. Las Vegas volunteer works to deliver change in her local community “Like most of America I fell in love with Mr. Obama when he addressed the 2004 convention. Once he announced his candidacy I couldn’t volunteer quickly enough. I was fortunate enough to be selected as an Obama delegate to the Clark County Convention and to the Nevada State Convention and have never stopped.” Nancy’s belief in supporting others can be seen clearly through her belief in President Obama and his legislative success this year. She believes in supporting President Obama while he tries to change the politics of self-interest that has permeated Washington in recent years. Instead of sitting back and waiting for change, Nancy has taken a proactive approach to supporting President Obama’s goals. By assisting others in her community Nancy is creating a better life for those who are struggling to make ends meet. “We have had numerous food drives and a homeless outreach that was a staggering success as well as many other events. I think that through our various civic events we have been able to ease the burden on those who need help the most.” Although others expect the President to carry the weight of the country -- Nancy understands that the President can’t do it alone -- that is why she believes it is everyone’s duty to contribute what they can to others who have been all but forgotten. “Certainly from a straight political viewpoint I believe that democracy is best served when everyone participates. We have been able to reach out to those under-served and un-served groups and get them actively involved and participating. That’s what change looks like.” Nancy invites those who have not yet answered the call to change, to join OFA, develop their own community projects. “Come join us. We need your help!” Nancy inspires others around her to become actively involved in their community. If you are interested in volunteering your time with Organizing for America, or you would like to help Nancy with her community projects, please email us at OFANevada@dnc.org. VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Marian W.This article was written by our communications intern Stephanie Streuber. Thank you Stephanie for all of your hard work. Marian was born in Reno and has lived much of her life there with her husband, Ken, her three children and two adult grandchildren. She began her involvement shortly after her retirement in 2008. Marian realized she missed the feeling of creating and contributing to others, so she and husband Ken took time from their Taiko drumming concerts and traveling throughout the U.S. to volunteer their time for the 2008 Obama campaign. She was very impressed with how hard everyone worked to get President Obama elected. The President’s win in 2008 was a win for Marian as well. “It was such a high to have all of our hard work pay off when President Obama was elected.” Marian continued her volunteer work by joining OFA after the election. The OFA team found a volunteer job that allowed her to use her skills. She volunteers a large amount of her time every week to helping with data entry and other projects in the Reno office. “I enjoy working and it’s especially satisfying to feel that I’m helping President Obama. I enjoy the wide range of people who are involved with OFA...I tell everyone how much fun I’m having and how amazing the people I work with are.” Marian believes that volunteering with OFA has helped her meet amazing people that she wouldn't have otherwise. She feels it’s especially important in this economic climate. “My involvement with OFA has allowed me to meet some astounding, interesting people.” To Marian OFA is a place where she feels she can continue to contribute to the greater good. “I once again feel as though I’m contributing to a better world for all of us. I think other people would benefit from OFA involvement by meeting some of the people I work with everyday. There are all kinds of jobs to do. It makes you notice how important it is to support the President’s vision of a better country.” Marian shares the feeling of making a difference that other OFA volunteers have voiced. “I feel that the little part I’ve done each day has helped get Health Care and Wall Street Reform passed. I feel like I am a tiny part of the change that President Obama said we could accomplish in his election night victory speech.” The President could not continue his fight for change without the help of dedicated volunteers like Marian. Her experience is a great example of the wide array of volunteering opportunities that Organizing for America offers to those willing to give some of their time and President Obama’s vision for change. If you are interested in becoming part of our organization and help our continuing outreach efforts to engage and empower first-time voters please email us at OFANevada@dnc.org. OFA Comm Intern Votes for First-Time from Italy2008 First-Time Voters Stay Engaged Ask Others to Vote in 2010 Elections Stephanie Streuber is a 22 year old recent college graduate who volunteers her time at Organizing for America Nevada as a communications intern. Stephanie’s first experience with politics was in 2008 when she voted for the first time. Her love for politics and finally reaching the legal voting age were not the only reasons for her activism. The economic downturn has been hard for many, including Stephanie’s family. “I have seen my family work hard only to be met by more struggles, and I wanted things to be just a little easier for them.” So Stephanie contributed what she could to the Obama campaign and cast her first ballot from overseas while she was studying abroad in Florence, Italy. “Voting in Italy was a challenge in itself, Stephanie added, “ I had to figure out how many stamps I needed while speaking in only Italian! Needless to say, I put extra ones on the envelope just in case.” After her graduation from college, Stephanie applied for an internship in the OFA Nevada office. Since starting, Stephanie states she feels happy about her contributions to change. “I have learned to ask a lot of questions, to listen to others, to receive constructive criticism in a positive way and the importance of working hard with both staff and volunteers.” She believes the most important aspect of volunteering at OFA is the difference she is making for others. And to her, it doesn’t hurt that she feels at home with everyone in the office. “Everyone here at OFA is helpful and supportive. They believe in the power of the vote and the importance of change.” So what advice does Stephanie give to others who might want to help but are hesitant to volunteer? “You have nothing to lose.” She believes that not only is she helping continue Obama’s policy of change, but she is changing herself. Stephanie feels that by volunteering you. “... not only benefit OFA but also you benefit as an individual”. Stephanie also expressed her view of what the most important political issue should be for the youth voters of Nevada. "Education is the biggest issue for me. Your ability to succeed in our educational system in Nevada is a direct result of the policies that are enacted and the importance placed on education by the policy makers.” Stephanie explained that by becoming knowledgeable about the issues that are at hand and each candidates view, the voter is able to choose the candidate that will most benefit the constituents. When voting, Stephanie relayed the importance of thinking about others when voting. “When someone votes for a person and they end up winning, the policies that are implemented when they are in office affect everyone, not just the people who voted.” She says one must think of others who could benefit from certain laws and candidates, and not to vote selfishly. “You have to think about a law before you simply decide yes or no. Ask yourself, “Will this help others” or “Will this make life easier for those who work hard but still struggle to make ends meet?” Finally, Stephanie spoke about what she would take away most from the process of voting. “The feeling that I am helping others and making a difference in someone else’s life.” She quickly explains that though she is only one small part of the election process, she knows she is truly contributing to a greater call for change.

OFA Nevada is Wishing President Obama a Happy Birthday TodayIn honor of President Obama’s 49th birthday today, OFA volunteers are hosting phonebanks and birthday parties all across Nevada. Volunteers will make 49 calls each to recruit members of their community to support OFA efforts around the midterm elections. Volunteers throughout the Silver State have also electronically signed a birthday card for the President. Here are a few great quotes from Nevadans like you: “I had the honor of shaking your hand 3 years ago when you came to a local coffee shop in my small town. I saw in your eyes that you meant what you said, and that you would fight for all of us. Stay strong Mr. President, we are all counting on you. Happy Birthday from all who support you.” - A supporter in Carson City, NV “For all our sanity, please continue to be exactly who you are! Because of you and your administration (despite these troubled times) I feel more optimistic than ever about our country's future. Most of all, have fun on your birthday...it's your own special day.” - A supporter in Winnemucca, NV “I am proud of you and your administration...and wish that more people who voted for Change would respect the time and effort it is going to take for some of the Change to happen. Thank you for taking this on - at a time when it must seem to be such a thankless, huge endeavor! Happiest of Birthdays to you. And, again...thank you for doing what you do for this country each day.” - A supporter in Las Vegas, NV After you come into our office today to make phone calls, take a moment to sign the birthday card: http://my.barackobama.com/birthday-SFB. And don’t forget to ask friend to do the same. A couple of Las Vegas Obama supporters, Jose S. and Ashleigh P., who couldn’t attend today’s phonebank wanted to honor the president in some way…so they baked a cake. 2008 First-Time Voters Ask Others To Vote in 2010His volunteerism motivates entire family to vote in 2008 Robert Miranda has joined OFA Las Vegas as a staff member but started his involvement as a first-time voter in the 2008 election cycle. His engagement and responsibilities increased and when there was an opening at OFA in Las Vegas he applied as a Regional Field Director and was chosen from several applicants.Robert is very proud of the work he’s done at OFA both as a volunteer and as a staff person and can’t stress enough the importance of voting. “I have gotten a lot out of my involvement with OFA but it’s what I was able to give back to my community and nation that I’m most proud of. The work that we have done as an organization from electing the first African-American President, to passing historic health care reform, has been the most rewarding work I have done, not because it benefits me but because it benefits every American. I absolutely believe that voting has an impact on others. I know when I got involved in 2008 my family and friends saw the work I was doing in the community and it got them motivated, not only did they register to vote but they cast their ballots as well.”Then candidate, Barack Obama’s oratory skills were not lost on Robert, he was inspired into becoming involved by listening to one of the speeches he gave in Nevada. His message of hope resonated with Robert and it spurred him into action. “I got involved with the Obama Campaign in 2008 because I was inspired and motivated. I was inspired by the words of Barack Obama, a four letter word that we all hold on to, HOPE, and that together we can change the direction and the future of our nation. I was motivated by the dedication of volunteers in my community that I saw working tirelessly for a cause bigger than themselves. I was motivated by the idea that for the first time our nation had a chance to make history by electing the first African American President.” Like many others Americans who will have the historic memory of the 2008 Presidential election forever etched into their conscience, Robert recalls that night with clarity of mind. “My biggest highlight I take away from my participation in the electoral process was on November 4, 2008 seeing Barack Obama being elected President. After all the thousands of doors knocked and phone calls made it felt great to see all our hard work come to fruition. The overwhelming joy and emotions I felt that night will always be one of the best moments of my life.” In closing, Robert encourages others to become involved and not sit on the sidelines. “Get involved! OFA empowers you to become a leader in your community. It’s a great way to serve our nation. The work and the relationships you build are rewarding as well.”Categories: Candates in Nevada
Grassroots at NetrootsOFA volunteers go grassroots with Netroots Nation This past Friday OFA volunteers and staff participated in the Netroots Nation conference by holding a voter registration canvass with Netroots attendees. OFA volunteers and staff met at the Rio Hotel and quickly, and efficiently, gave a brief overview of how to register voters and then drove to a nearby neighborhood and went to work in 110+ degree weather. Local OFA volunteers were joined by Netroots participants and speakers from coast-to-coast including a community organizer, Janice C., from New York. OFA staff from Washington D.C. participating and presenting on panels at the conference. Joining us from D.C. were; Natalie Foster, DNC New Media Director, and Greg Greene, DNC Online Outreach Manager, helping out to register voters. Sporting newly produced union t-shirts, from PDQ Printing, with OFA-NV social media sites emblazoned in blue, teams dispersed into several apartment complexes near the hotel and went door-to-door asking people if they were registered to vote and for their commitment to vote in the 2010 election through our commitment cards. Although it was the early afternoon and the temperature had already reached the triple digits mark, volunteers came out and walked up and down the stairs at apartment complexes and canvassed a local Latino neighborhood. A volunteer from Berkley, California said she was inspired to see the local volunteers so passionate about canvassing, despite the intense heat and vowed to do more when she returned home. Through all the hard work and effort, the team was able to register 9 new Democratic voters and gather 24 Vote 2010 commitment cards. In order to win in November there will need to be many more doors knocked and voter contacted. We can’t do it alone. OFA needs your help now more than ever. VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Glenda J.Community Organizer, Las Vegas NV Glenda J. began her involvement with OFA as a result of her work in the 2008 presidential campaign. Her commitment was unwavering and she decided she was, “all in” to use a poker term, which is appropriate since she works in a local casino. Glenda took a three month leave of absence from her job to work full time on the campaign. When Organizing for America came to town in the summer of 2009 she seamlessly folded into the next big push which was Health Care Reform. Her “one voice” mantra, that kept her motivated through every campaign, still resonates with her today. “If one voice can change a room, then it can change a city; if it can change a city, then it can change a state; if it can change a state, then it can change a nation; if it can change a nation, then it can change the world.” Her involvement with OFA has also provided her with a new found sense of community, as she learned that the fast pace and ever-changing, 24 hour cycle, of the Las Vegas strip, was reflective of the community. “It takes real effort to get to know people in this city; OFA has made this much easier. There is a real bond in our shared purpose of supporting our President and his agenda; this not only includes the obvious political activities, but with his emphasis on community service, many of us are really turning our attention inward and asking ourselves, "How can I make my own community and city better?" Her involvement in the election, and with OFA, has raised her profile in both her community and workplace -- to her surprise -- her commitment rubbed off on others. “After the election, there were even more people who came up to me and told me that they really admired what I had done. Many told me that, it inspired them to become more involved. When it came time for healthcare reform, many of these people were my most ardent volunteers.” Glenda doesn’t mind hitting the streets or the phones to contact voters. She does it regularly. So much so that she was the 1st person to hit over 500 points in the Nevada Commitment Card Tournament of Champions. She won a “Hope” poster autographed by President Obama.OFA is welcoming volunteers for the 2010 mid-term elections. OFA Nevada Contributes Mightily to “Day of Action” By Going the Extra MileFighting Triple Digit Weather Volunteers Deliver Awesome Results This weekend throughout the Silver State, Organizing for America volunteers were on fire. They powered through 90 plus degree heat in Reno and over 116 degree heat, which triggered an excessive heat warning in Las Vegas, to reach out to people in high traffic areas to register voters and gather commitment cards for the November 2010 election. Volunteer engagement events were wide-and-varied, including a presence at a hip-hop festival and farmer’s markets in Northern Nevada, to Latino grocery stores and department of motor vehicles offices in Southern Nevada. A Las Vegas volunteer, Melvin R., shared his story as to why he came out on an extremely hot Saturday to register voters. “I’m volunteering to keep Sharron Angle out of the system. It’s important because it scares me to have someone in office, that wants to wipe out Social Security. In January I’ll be 62 years old and be able to draw Social Security. If I don’t do anything, Sharron may be able to wipe out my Social Security before I’m eligible to draw it.” Dedicated volunteers like Melvin and others helped Nevada reach milestones that made our efforts stand out -- relative to other states that are larger in population and volunteer base. This weekend’s results put Nevada in every top 10 category in the nation! So, you ask yourself, how did we do?
So thank you, thank you, thank you, to the wonderful OFA volunteers for all your work this weekend! In closing we’d like to share a story that speaks to the dedication OFA volunteer’s exhibit time and again and shows how OFA volunteers are willing to go the extra mile, literally speaking. Pasquale G., an active union member and merchant marine stationed in Long Beach, California, but a resident of Las Vegas, drove from Long Beach to his home in Las Vegas this past weekend, to take part in our voter registration efforts. He says it’s important for his union brethren to get involved. “I supported the miner’s in the Boron strike by getting food for them and we won. I ship out 6 months at a time so when I’m home I like to help out.” I believe that says it all. VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Bruce K.Bruce K. is a dedicated Organizing For America (OFA) volunteer from Reno. He enjoys the camaraderie and vision OFA offers, as well as the satisfaction of a hard day’s work. “So you make friends, have a good time, learn more than you expect, make a difference to individuals, the community, and in the end, see how you helped change the nation. It is fun, hard work, with a great sense of accomplishment in the end.” Listening on television to then, presidential candidate Barack Obama, speak at the 2008 Democratic Convention, he sensed something new, and fresh, emanating from the candidate. Bruce knew he had to see this man in person and attended an event when Obama came to Reno. He had no idea what a huge impact it would have on his outlook on politics and participatory democracy. “It was May 31, at Wingfield Park, when I saw Obama at his first rally in Reno, I changed my voter registration, from Non-Partisan to Democrat, on the spot. I started to volunteer for canvassing with Obama for America, slow at first, and then full-time. Pretty soon I was doing everything I could to get out the vote. On Election Day, I continued to knock on doors until 15 minutes before voting would close.” Bruce notes that President Obama doesn’t refer to himself as an agent of change. But rather points to each individual as the change makers, so after the election he decided to remain engaged and join OFA. He put many hours into making sure Health Insurance Reform was passed. He enjoys the one-on-one interchange when contacting voters and wants to make sure they receive information from another person, much like themselves. “First, it is a responsibility in a democratic republic to become involved. This nation was founded on revolution - the hard work has been done. Our job is easy - to maintain democracy, but it is a responsibility that cannot be put off to another day - it must be done in our time - now.” During our interview, he closed with a reflection on how we impact others lives through OFA volunteerism. “I am always open to meet a person and share a moment of their life, their woe or their hopes, and to come together as people for that moment and share a common hope for a better future. I cannot begin to count the number of times someone has said they feel better, more hopeful, not alone, or thankful, or grateful, or even unconvinced but now open minded to a different perspective. This is how a community unites and finds the common ground upon which to build compromise. People are far happier to get along with other people than one would ever know from listening to the media. People-to-people makes a real difference and you get to enjoy that moment as it happens.” OFA is welcoming volunteers for the 2010 mid-term elections. Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The OFA Realm is Holding a Tournament of Champions!National and Nevada Contests for 2010 Midterm Elections If you haven’t noticed lately, OFA-Nevada State Field Director, Dave Osolnick is bouncing off the walls! Now, if you know Dave, you know what a super competitive guy he is and he has the perfect vehicle by which he can channel his competitive juices. But he needs your help. It’s the OFA Comitment Card Tournament of Champions! OFA volunteers and staff will engage in a “no holds barred” competition to contact the largest number of first time voters, and collect the most commitment cards to vote in the November 2010 election. Not only are we competing against other states (right now we’re competing against New Hampsire) but Dave decided to take it to the next level and “throw down the gauntlet” to OFA Nevada volunteers. Regional field directors will select volunteers who will compete to gather the most points based on their output (i.e. total number of contacts with first-time voters, phone banks, canvasses etc.). The length of the competition will vary and competitors will go ‘mano-a-mano’ as the tournament progresses. Sound like a challenge you’re up for? Contact your local regional field directors in Las Vegas; Juan: OrtegaJ@dnc.org, Steve: SisnerosS@dnc.org, or in Reno; Tom: HamiltonT@dnc.org to find out more details. Hurry, Round 1 has already started and ends on July 4. As an incentive to our outstanding volunteers, who can produce the best numbers, they will be eligible to dip into our “goodie” box for special treats! Just like the dentist office only not as painful. Stay tuned, as the tournament progresses and see how we fare on the state-to-state contest as we go against our larger opponents, like California, New York, Florida, Ohio. Let the tournament begin and may the best teams win!Nevada, let’s take this thing! VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Tom HarperTom Harper is a practicing attorney in Las Vegas, Nevada who was bitten by the “campaign bug” after working on President Obama’s presidential campaign – When the campaign ended, Tom missed the relationships and energy that he gained during the campaign so quickly decided to get involved with Organizing for America (OFA). The driving forces behind Tom’s involvement are his two children and his heartfelt belief that we all have the responsibility to make this a better nation. He has a constantly positive outlook on life. To-date his greatest satisfaction has been the passage of Health Care Reform. “I’m fully aware of all of the benefits that the health care reform legislation is going to bring to so many Americans who have suffered because they didn’t have appropriate health care. I hope I’m a good example to others who work as hard as they do to be good citizens and stewards of this nation. This country has been very good to me and I have a genuine sense that I should give back as much as I can, not only for what this nation provided to me but also to help with the future of my children.” Tom goes on to say that he never believed a grassroots effort -- made up of individual citizens like himself -- could have an impact until he witnessed the passage of health reform. He came to the realization that there are many other people who will work for the betterment of this nation. His volunteerism and community organizing efforts through Organizing for America have provided Tom with deep sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. OFA-NV Welcomes Volunteers to New Headquarter Office in Las Vegas[Editor's note: this post was written by OFA-NV Press Secretary Jose Moreno.] Organizing for America – Nevada (OFA-NV) held the grand opening of their headquarter office, in Las Vegas this past Saturday with speakers, food, fun, and immediate steps for action to help elect Democratic allies in 2010. The event was attended by more than 115 volunteers participating in the ceremony and organizing efforts. The event kicked-off with OFA State Director, Jennifer López welcoming the crowd. Then, summer intern Rudy Z. introduced Democratic Gubernatorial candidate and Clark County Commissioner Rory Reid. Reid addressed the standing room only crowd and urged them to reach out to neighbors, friends and family to get involved and vote. Congresswoman Dina Titus (CD-3) also attended the event and thanked OFA volunteers and staff for their hard work and dedication. She also asked for OFA’s help in connecting with 2008 First Time voters and making sure they get to the polls. Congressional District 3 has the highest population of First Time 2008 voters. At the conclusion of the program, attendees enjoyed the snacks and refreshments. People mingled and engaged in light conversation. Nevada Field Director, David Osolnick, broke the attendees into two groups for a friendly competition of who can reach the most First Time 2008 voters today. Regional Field Directors Steve Sisneros and Juan Ortega trained volunteers on the work they were about to do, then, volunteers flooded out to surrounding neighborhoods to knock on doors and educate voters about the upcoming election. Some people remained in the office and made numerous calls and asked for their commitment to support Democratic allies in the 2010 election. The event was a huge success. OFA-NV Community Organizer Glenda J had this to say about the event: “Not only was the event well-attended, but almost everyone who came to the event signed up to volunteer. As a community organizer, it was not only a fun day, but a rewarding day. We had people walk in the door, who were unsure if they wanted to volunteer, but the staff had one training room set up for phonebanking and another for canvassing. Because the training was so readily available, not only did several people canvass or make calls immediately, but signed up to come back this week. This is how you get people fired up and ready to go!“ To get involved in OFA, send an email to OFANevada@dnc.org.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Gail D.Community Organizer, Reno, NV After a 13 year stint in Saudi Arabia, Gail and her husband returned to the U.S. and she decided to get involved. While living in Iowa she discovered Obama for America (now called Organizing for America) online and began her activism by making neighbor-to-neighbor telephone calls. If you’ve met Gail you know that she’s an over achiever and early on in her volunteer career, she became a precinct leader and together with another couple they canvassed a town of 1,000 people – twice. Her hard work and dedication in Iowa was recognized and appreciated. She had the opportunity to meet then-Senator Obama, in Des Moines, prior to his address before a crowd of 35,000 supporters. Soon after she moved to Reno, Nevada where she met then OFA Deputy Field Director Dave Osolnick and immediately jumped into the fray in Northern Nevada. Through her involvement with OFA she came to realize that volunteers could make a difference in the country: “I encourage people to become involved with OFA because you are needed and you will be supported to succeed in whatever you want to do.” Gail has gained tremendous personal satisfaction through her involvement and feels her volunteer work is impacting the future for the better: “I have received so much satisfaction and enjoyment out of my involvement that it’s hard for me to put into words. I’ve become aligned with like-minded friends and experienced great personal growth. Most of all, I feel the work I am doing will leave the world a better place for my children and grandchildren.” She encourages others to get involved and notes that it’s a reciprocal relationship working with OFA as your involvement puts you on the cutting edge of political issues and keeps you engaged with your community. Gail loves working with people and is a consummate expert on talking people down from a place of anger into a discourse and exchange of ideas: “I am happiest when I call someone who is angry or unhappy and I am able to gently talk them down and use facts to correct untruths that they’ve picked up in the media and convince them to come in to volunteer or have a 1-on-1 meeting with a staff member.” OFA is welcoming volunteers for the 2010 mid-term elections. VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Susan B.Community Organizer, Las Vegas, NV Susan is a retired California educator living with her husband in Las Vegas, Nevada. Susan first became involved with OFA as a precinct captain during President Obama’s historic run. She was inspired by the dedication of young campaign workers and felt she could make a difference in her new home state of Nevada. Eight years of the former administration, became the driving force behind Susan’s involvement and desire to make a change in the direction of our country. She felt very strongly that the country needed a change in direction on: foreign policy; health care, the environment; clean energy; and the economy. Susan was impressed with then candidate – Barack Obama – his character, desire for authentic change and his commitment to average Americans, so much so, that she bought and read the President’s memoir, Dreams of My Father and the inspiring, The Audacity of Hope. Susan’s outlook on getting involved with OFA is interwoven with a home grown philosophy for turning the negative into a positive, “One can become discouraged and angry, but working to make change happen is empowering and energizing. Together, our individual efforts have great power.” > Categories: Candates in Nevada
